Dr. Maurice Kay Brown is the owner of Helmwood Veterinary Clinic. A native of the area, Dr. Brown graduated from North Hardin High School in 1964. After completing high school, Dr. Brown attended University of Kentucky, where he received his pre-vet. training, and Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. As a veterinary student, Dr. Brown was elected to membership in Phi Kappa Phi (national honor society) and Phi Zeta (national veterinary honor society). He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with honors from Auburn University in 1972.

Even with his busy practice, Dr. Brown finds time for community affairs as well as hobbies. He is a longtime member and deacon of the Severns Valley Baptist Church. Hobbies include gardening, traveling, and caring for his 1957 classic Chevy.

Dr. Brown is married to Martha Brown, business manager at Helmwood Veterinary Clinic. The Browns have two grown children, Chad and Cameron, and two grandchildren, Ethan and Catherine. Their pets include D.D., a Yorkshire terrier.
